Downland & Flint; Bernard's 9 miles walk from Rodmell

Bernard lead this walk from the Mid Sussex Rambers' programme from Rodmell, up Cricketing Bottom to Telscombe, Swanborough Hill and back to Rodmell.

Lunch was taken in the shelter of a barn with great views towards
Seaford Head and the Seven Sisters.

Fine views of Lewes Castle too.

Many thanks Bernard for a fine walk.

And here you can see the "yellow brick road" as it was when Tony lead us down the same road.

5.5 Miles circular walk from Beech Hurst to Cuckfield

I lead this walk on behalf of Mid Sussex Ramblers; the original walk proposer being unable to lead on this day. Despite days of torrential rain and gales before and a poor forecast for this day, 14 ramblers splashed their way from Haywards Heath to Cuckfield and a pleasant lunch in The White Harte pub.

I chose to not delay the group to try to identify this beauty.
It might be a Fleecy Milk Cap, which is common and can cause serious stomach upsets.

Paul's 11 miles walk from Barcombe Cross

Almost continuous light rain and temperatures well above freezing at c.6C made
for some clammy walking in our wet weather gear.
This happy bunch were even happier when Paul cut a couple of miles from the original plan in view of the weather. That gave me time to walk out the beginning of next Sunday's Mid Sussex Ramblers' walk.
Thanks Paul. As always, in such weather, it was almost a pleasure.

Remembrance Day Walk in Ashdown Forest

Tony lead this 6 miles walk from the Mid Sussex Ramblers' programme of walks.

The walk lead to the "Airman's Grave" - a memorial to the crew of a bomber which crashed there, killing them all during the second world war.
Hundred of walkers and horse riders converge on the site for two minutes silence, a bugler and wreath laying. A biplane circled dropping poppy petals.
Tony placed a memorial cross and poppy for his father, who died flying a Hurricane fighter plane in Burma. William placed a tribute on behalf of Mid Sussex Ramblers.

These pictures of a fallow deer stag in the sanctuary of Pippingford Park, where they are never hunted, were taken with a zoom lens.

Many thanks Tony for an enjoyable and memorable walk with a pleasant lunch in the Red Lion, Chelwood Gate afterwards.

Paul's 11.3 miles walk from Chiddingly - with added Parasol mushrooms everywhere.

Heavy rain showers was the forecast for Gatwick for today. However, the sun shone on Chiddingly above in East Sussex as 12 Mid Sussex Ramblers set off. It was more than 2 hours later before we got our first rain drops.

Hogweed in flower in November.

The view back to Chiddingly church with the autumn-sown grain growing well.

This Spindle tree was a lovely sight as the lovely Sussex Ramblers walk by.

Parasol mushrooms were emerging in many places.

Not a Parasol!

This was a great walk with enough strong winds and rain to keep us cool and free from sunstroke. Many thanks Paul.

2009 Veteran Car Rally in Cuckfield; section 1

Heavy rain and 40mph winds battered the cars and me all morning. With very poor light and the camera settings that I chose, the pictures are like impressionist paintings - atmospheric at least.

If you can read the registration number on the car then you can click here to find their details.

You can also click here to see pictures from the same spot from 2007.
